All marketers have their own criteria for assessing texts. For some, the main thing is the meaningful content; some focus on the number of sources or correct formatting, but almost all marketers check texts for plagiarism and ensure that writing sounds professional.
The issue of plagiarism is acute not only for those who work with marketing writing but also for students. It is important for them to clarify with the teacher in advance what percentage of uniqueness the work should have and what verification system they should use to check paper for plagiarism.
Why it is important to deliver plagiarism-free marketing writing
If you create the text of your marketing needs, use fresh sources, and refer to reliable publications, then you will not have problems with uniqueness. You will easily get the minimum percentage: usually, it is 95% and higher.
However, if the text needs to be prepared urgently, and you do not have time to conduct long and thorough research, the content may not pass the check. In this case, you will need to make changes to it.
Increasing the uniqueness of marketing writing: main stages
There are several ways that will help you independently check the uniqueness of the text:
- Choosing a program for checking originality. The first step to assessing the uniqueness of the text is choosing a service. Focus on programs with extensive access to all kinds of texts and strict verification conditions. If you have not used such services before, reviews of programs for copywriters will help you get acquainted with them. It is important for these specialists to produce unique text, so in such publications, you can find a lot of useful information about the quality of work of different systems. Also, don’t forget to use text analysis tools that will help you end up with a text that sounds professional.
- Verification conditions. Different programs use different algorithms to evaluate the text. Some work according to the shingle algorithm (you need to select the number of consecutive words), and others evaluate the text as a whole.
- Saving all versions. Most copywriters fail to get the required percentage of originality in marketing writing the first time; for this, it is very important to save each version of the text and report on it. This will help you identify problem areas that need to be fixed.
- Choosing a way to bypass plagiarism detection. Direct quotes always reduce the percentage of originality of the text, so many copywriters resort to tricks. We will tell you more about them below, although we do not encourage you to use them.
- Uniqueness reserve. It is always better to submit a text that does not have a critical minimum threshold of originality but has a small reserve. For example, make marketing writing unique not at the minimum 90%, but at least at the level of 95-97%. The fact is that marketers often use more powerful corporate programs for checking, and the result that you receive on a free service may be insufficient.
- Checking by a marketer or your manager. When you decide that you have achieved the desired result, send the text to your manager. They will check it according to their methodology and say whether it needs to be improved further or whether you have already tried hard enough.
We will tell you about some methods that copywriters successfully use to bypass the anti-plagiarism check and make the text unique.
10 ways to bypass the anti-plagiarism system and increase the originality of marketing writing for free
There are quite a few ways to improve the uniqueness of marketing writing without additional investments. They are suitable for any type of text.
High-quality rewriting
The most honest way to increase the originality of a text, which even some marketers do not object to, is to present someone else’s text in your own words. This method of reformulation is called rewriting.
If you also provide a link to the original source, then, in fact, this ceases to be plagiarism but becomes normal borrowing, acceptable for some type of marketing writing. A small number of copywriters use this method of paraphrasing: it requires spending a lot of time on a full acquaintance and analysis of someone else’s text.
Using synonyms and additional words
A simpler version of rewriting is to dilute someone else’s text with additional words and replace some constructions with synonyms. Introductory and non-committal words are good choices.
This increase in originality is good for regular text but will not work with specific terms. If the uniqueness is low precisely because of them, we recommend inserting them not as text but as pictures: take screenshots and add them to your marketing writing.
Synonymizing programs
If you cannot find synonyms yourself, special programs that are easy to find online will come to the rescue. Synonymizers do not cope well with large texts but are quite suitable for small passages. This will help to increase the uniqueness by one or two percent, and sometimes, this is exactly what is needed.
Automatic hyphenation
Another trick to increase the originality of the text by a couple of percent is to use word hyphenation. This function is easy to set up in any text editor; for example, in Microsoft Word, just find the section in the “Layout” tab.
Before using this method, we recommend reading the methodological manual and making sure that the marketer or your manager does not prohibit this document format.
Working with shingles
A shingle is a certain number of words in a certain sequence in the text. Most originality-checking services work on the principle of dividing the entire text into shingles. It is enough to change one word from the sequence, and the program will already consider the shingle as unique.
Many services have automatic settings for shingles of three words, so changing every third or fourth word can significantly increase originality.
Changing frequently repeated words
Try to avoid repeating the same words and replace them with synonyms. Reformulating common phrases is one of the easiest ways to increase the uniqueness of a text.
Changing the structure of a sentence
Some marketing texts use complex sentences. If you change its parts without losing the meaning, this will help to increase the uniqueness.
Using filler words
There are words that do not carry a special semantic load but, at the same time, do not change the essence of the text. For example, the word “but” can be inserted into almost any sentence to dilute the original version or break the shingle.
Collaboration
If you have friends who are not too lazy to read your writing, you can agree with them on cooperation. They will read your text, retell it in their own words, and you will write down what they heard.
If you do not want to bother your loved ones, entrust this to professionals. Proofreaders and editors will help bring the work to the required percentage of originality and, at the same time, make it sound professional.
If you don’t want to search for such professionals, there is even a better way out. You can use an online writing tool that will serve as an editor. Moreover, the program has a word suggestions function that will be extremely helpful in writing.
Help from artificial intelligence
Another option is to use modern technologies and increase uniqueness using a neural network.
The most popular bot that works on the basis of AI is ChatGPT. After you register on the site, you can give the chat a command: “Increase the uniqueness of the text” or “Formulate the text in other words.” The program will start generating and, in a few minutes, will give the result. By the way, modern neural networks can also be used to get ideas for your marketing writing when you don’t know what to write about on a specific topic.
Methods of uniqueness that make no sense to use
We do not recommend using outdated methods of increasing uniqueness:
- Diluting the text with a large number of prepositions
- Doing automatic synonymizing of large chunks of text.
Originality-checking programs are constantly improving, so it will not be possible to bypass them with such outdated methods, and synonymizing can turn even the highest quality text into an incomprehensible set of words.
The following tricks won’t work either:
- Rearranging sentences or paragraphs. Programs work with shingles and, therefore, quickly recognize this technique.
- Rearranging parts of sentences. The sequence of words is important, as is the general content.
- Connecting sentences. If you think that by connecting two simple sentences with a conjunction and turning them into a complex one, you will fool the system, then you are mistaken.
- Changing punctuation marks. Modern services do not pay attention to commas, periods, and dashes.
- Adding hidden symbols. Some try to add additional letters to the text and then mask them with a white background. This is pointless: when you submit an electronic version and the marketer selects the entire text for checking, both they and the program can clearly see all the hidden symbols.
- Using special programs to increase originality. There are many services on the Internet that promise to increase the uniqueness of the text. Usually, they are designed specifically for students and copywriters, but they work on the basis of the methods we wrote about above and are already outdated. We do not recommend using either paid or free versions of such programs; they will not give the desired result.
Of course, everyone who deals with marketing writing needs to ensure their texts are unique. However, you also shouldn’t forget that the texts should sound professional as well. Therefore, while striving for uniqueness, don’t forget about the quality of your writing.
